A Day in the Life of Marine Captain Cross before the Zoastra Affair Part Twenty Seven

His plan worked seamlessly. The classic diversionary tactic, where the suspect put the prize back into a lockbox before checking the lock. Simplistic, but effective. Next time his usual luck would be back, making the fight harder.

Cross pulled Grace away as his men pulled the other women out of the courtyard before anyone knew what happened. The lights stayed off.

Cross whispered in her ear, “Your husband is here.”

“Good,” she breathed back. “I can’t wait to see him.”

He put her under his shoulder, so no one saw her as they crossed the courtyard. “He’s our transportation out of here.”

“Cross, thank you. You don’t believe in finding the Creators, but you’re here saving us.”

Focus. Not on her body. “I found Rosemarie same as you, their daughter.”

“Rosemarie is a human whose parents created EarthSeekers. She’s not who I meant.”

“I know.” He’d never own up to his salacious thoughts.

He pulled her out of the courtyard, hiding her in his arms, keeping her safe. He’d had a lot of women since leaving Montreal, but Grace made him feel different. “I’d never let anything happen to you…or Rose.”

“She liked you. She just met the general first.” Rosemarie smiled at him.
