Are you are a member of Savvy Authors? April and August are the pitch months, and I’ve volunteered to help my fellow authors find agents and editors. It’s going to be an exciting month.
Lisa Dunick, Samhain
April 11th for a one-day blog
In her words, “I’m looking for a wide range of things, but prefer not to get high fantasy or sweet romances. I’m also really picky about shifters or vampires at this point, and I’m probably not the one who will go for anything too kinky. I’d love to find a great historical, but the big thing I look for is voice. If a writer can hook me in the first few pages, the genre doesn’t tend to matter as much.”
She’s like to see a pitch of no more than 100 words.
Lisa Dunick is a new editor with Samhain Publishing. She has a PhD in English and has taught writing and literature at the college level for more than a decade. She didn’t actually stumble onto her first Romance until she was close to 30, but once she found them, she was hooked. Now authors like Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, Victoria Dahl, Maisey Yates, and Karen Marie Moning occupy shelf space next to Faulkner, Woolf, and Morrison–and that’s just the way she likes it.
Her experience as a teacher makes her a hands-on editor who wants to help authors learn to write more effectively and efficiently with each draft. She’s interested in developing long-lasting relationships with her authors, and is committed to helping them navigate the often confusing waters of the publishing market. When she’s not reading, writing, or marking up writing, she can be found wrangling her kids or checking out the local food scene. She lives in the wilds of the DC metro area with her family.
