Something New and something naughty. Wow. This is not what I intended to write today. For something new, I’m so excited to go on my cruise and have people read my first two pages of a WIP. It’s rough right now, but at 40K words, I’m in good shape to get this baby done. Last time I went to a conference it helped me refine my last manuscript and now it’s out on submission. Fingers crossed someone likes it. So lots of new things going on in my life.
Now for something naughty, I do wish there was something to report on. I thought about this, this morning. I’m super independent and was required to be all my life. If the fire alarm is going on, it’s my job to find the solution to the problem. I’ve always been that way. And a thought about an ex-boyfriend and how I upset him once crossed my mind today while thinking about this. Back story: We were at a baseball game, so the part in Two Weeks in Miami where Charlotte meets Bobby as a baseball game was well researched. In real life, the ex who was not that at the time went out for a minute, leaving me in my seat. Two drunk men behind me started hitting me on the back of the head for wearing my baseball jersey. Two other nice men came to sit next to me while my boyfriend was gone. They stopped hitting me when the man returned… basic jerks. I focused on the game and told the boyfriend when the game ended. He wanted to fight the men (which is sweet), and I had both been scared to tell him and never had anyone even bother. I don’t get in situations where people hit me off the back of my head, so the whole thing was unusual for me. But I remember being quiet and not wanting to make a scene, and I denied the boyfriend the opportunity to defend me. This is an old lesson, but it popped into my head that I was so wrong that time. And in the future, whenever the naughty gets back to my life, I’ll have a new reaction.
Aha! I’m accomplished. I finished this post. Woohoo.
Two Weeks in Miami comes out soon, where in fiction, characters are fun an interesting. The advertisement in Romantic Times reads:
Convinced by her girl friend to try online dating, Charlotte is surprised to find her safe date for an afternoon baseball game is anything but safe as the handsome marine officer sweeps her off her feet and into the adventure of a lifetime.
