OCTOBER
Friends don’t know everything
Oct 14, 2016 Part 8
Weight: 119
Ate: a blueberry scone
Drank: latte
Sex: No, not yet…
My stomach grumbled again, but I sealed my lips. The heart should go to the best possible choice, but I’d not explain all of that to either of them. Vicki grew up richer than anyone, and Alice’s family farm bred different values than Jennifer might ever have.
Alice picked up a book and pretended to read the back blurb which meant she didn’t want their opinions either. So maybe they had something in common as I didn’t want others in my life either. Vicki’s blue eyes seemed wide and she waited. Finally Alice said, “I want both. For years, I’ve told myself everything will be better when I move out on my own. It’s time I do that. Today my condo is ready for me to move in. I ordered the furniture and the moving trucks months ago. All I have to do is pick up my key and walk in the door.”
My stomach growled and I wished for that scone, but I tapped my foot and stared at Alice as I asked, “So how does John factor in?”
Alice’s blush grew as she met Vicki’s gaze. She put the book back and let out a long sigh. “I’d like to see him.”
Or marry him. John was a Morgan and had an inheritance any smart woman would secure as her own so I didn’t blink as I asked, “That’s it?”
Alice’s eyes seemed moist. Was she going to cry? I stilled as she met Vicki’s gaze and said, “John doesn’t love me.”
Love? Seriously? That was a stupid thing. What mattered more was money enough to never have to worry about anything else.
However Vicki smiled and I pressed my lips together, refusing to say a word as Vicki said, “I don’t believe it.”
What? Seriously? Did they all live on a different planet? But then again, in any show she was on, she’d played the young innocent who swore true love existed. Alice then shook her head and said, “You are saying that because he’s your brother.”
Probably. But I didn’t say anything. If Vicki was this believer in true love then maybe she came for Colt, Alice’s brother. Jennifer remembered how hot and heavy Vicki had been with the farmers son. But this wasn’t my battle. I stilled and waited. I’d find out later if I needed too more about Vicki too, as she said, “Exactly. Who knows him better than me? Alice, I have never seen John look at another woman the same way he looks at you.”
I slipped away for that scone as Alice said, “Then maybe he’ll want to date, but for today, I have to do this.”
Dating. If Vicki thought Alice was good for John, maybe I could convince her that her that I was good for Peter. Peter wanted his family and my quest would be easier if I had his sister’s support.
I ordered my scone and nibbled once I received it. With her support, I had a shot to get the ring. This was good.
