A Day in the Life of Marine Captain Cross before the Zoastra Affair Part Thirty Six
Cross stood on the flight deck, facing General Aurelius. “I can’t guarantee an escape from the ships.”
After several hours of hide and seek and a near miss of multiple shots at the ship, Cross wanted to put the princess out in an airlock. No woman who invited herself on his ship was worth this fight. Even if they helped her escape her fate, they set themselves up for disaster. The aliens might take their retribution plans back to Earth.
The general read his screen as he told Cross, “I understand. Do your best.”
“General, we have to send her back.”
He looked up to meet Cross’s eyes. “I agree. Go speak to her and get her ready. I want to end this diplomatically if possible.”
Cross waited until his men moved the ship out of sight. He’d wanted to speak to the troublesome alien woman for a while anyhow. He left his station and walked to the medical wing.
Dr Thomas was played a card game with her— teaching her. He found the sight annoying. Worst, the smell of illicit happenings clung to the air. Why was the doctor alone with the alien woman?
“I need to interrogate our prisoner, doctor.” Something happened.
“She’s not a prisoner, captain.”
Cross saw empathy and pitied the doctor. Women like his wife trained him well. He ordered the doctor. “All the same, return to your duties.”
