My brother is having a destination wedding in June and he asked my mother to throw him a ‘send off’ party. My mother has no idea what to do as she doesn’t know the bride well. This meant for me that my mother was too busy to help throw me a baby shower.
I was perfectly fine saying ‘I don’t need one’ but then an awesome friend who will one day publish her array of many books that are currently on her computer said she’d throw the party. This makes Kimberly pretty much the most awesome person alive. She then asked me questions and really fired me up on party planning. She asked what theme do you want for the party?
I was at first stumped, but then the more I thought about it, the easier the questions became. I’m having a girl. So what would my baby girl like? She can’t speak yet, so I guess this answers the question on what I’d like. I started a pinterest board for this to gather all my ideas.
I love pinterest. It’s how I come up with ideas like the online baby announcement. For parties and ideas to do creative fun things, then that is the place to go.
I also started writing out my invitation list. Suddenly I’m back in party mode. Yeah.
This also motivated me to buy my first of the major purchases I want to get my baby. We bought a stroller. I know people say to wait, but there are so many things on the registry and a few major purchases I want to get before that day at the end of June. I’ll be 33 weeks pregnant by the time the shower comes and I don’t want to run around when I’m super large and too tired. I’m good now. So it’s time to prepare.
As someone whose 39 years old and just now having her first baby, everything is way more appreciated and awesome. Thank you Kimberly!!!

It’s better that your friend is throwing you your shower. Traditionally, close friends, cousins, aunts, sisters-in-law, or coworkers of the mother-to-be hosted baby showers. Because gifts are central to showers, hosting by a member of the honoree’s (or husband’s) immediate family appeared self-serving. It’s an Emily Post etiquette No-No.
