A Day in the Life of Marine Captain Cross before the Zoastra Part Six
Cross understood the emphasis. Rosemarie was the creator’s daughter, Aurelius’s girlfriend and the general sweetheart of every member of the crew. Her voice woke him up every day too. Her place was here, on the ship. And he’d get her back. Peter looked visibly shaken.
Aurelius added, “They had mannerisms of ancient Romans, but something different and more diplomatic. I’ll let you know my plan to get them back soon. Prepare the shuttle, captain…Major Newman can help you.”
Cross nodded and left the flight deck. Brigadier General Aurelius studied and planned. Any information or strategy the general put together, he’d follow. But Cross needed to shoot his gun―he didn’t care at who. Getting the women back mattered, especially his few female friends, Grace and Rosemarie.
Good, solid women were necessary for world order. Even if he’d never have one of his own.
Captain Cross walked Major Newman out the door. Aurelius told Second Lieutenant Rex Gaynor, another friend, “Get Colonel Hunter to the flight deck. His absence has already been already noted.”
“Aye, sir.”
The airlock closed. At least they were spared the sight of Hunter, thought Cross. The man stank of cowardice.
