I need a clue

Oct 14, 2016 Part 2

Weight: 118

Ate: nothing

Drank: nothing new

Sex: Not not please

Now it was time to ask. No more waiting.

I sipped my bottle and waited until Caro left. I then leaned on the counter Pilar just polished and asked, “Pilar, can you give me some advice?”

Pilar pursed her lips and then batted her eyes at my as she said, “Yes, as long as you promise to be kinder to Caro.”

I nodded my head in agreement and held up my right hand to swear as I said, “Easy. I like that she’s here.”

Pilar put the sponge she’d been working with under the water to wash it as she asked me, “What is it you want right now Jennifer?”

I met her gaze. Right now I needed hope. Or something like that. I swallowed, glanced at the gleaming counter and asked, “How did you know Samuel was your one and only?”

Pilar stepped away from me. I pressed my lips together and hope I didn’t offend her. Her husband had been gone long before I ever met her or her children. Pilar returned and then said, “I… I loved him. He loved me. We grew up together.”

If that was the recipe for love, Peter and I could make it. I smiled as I said, “Like I grew up with Peter.”

She pursed her lips and turned off the water as she then went to the refrigerator “You didn’t grow up with Peter though. You didn’t talk at all when you were in school.”

Okay so Peter never talked to anyone though I tried. I pressed my lips together and wasn’t sure how to explain that so I just said, “We talked. I just didn’t tell you.”

Her eyes narrowed as she just stared at me and asked, “Because you were dating my son then?”

“Yes and you’re nicer to me than my own mother.” I said and wished Pilar was my mother. Near her, at least I had hope.

And if I was smart and kept a positive attitude, I could get what I want.

Pilar took my hand and said, “As long as you don’t hurt my children, I’ll be here, whenever you need me Jennifer.”

“Thank you.” I said.

Then Pilar proceeded to feed me.

I couldn’t say no. Every bite I intended to be my last, but I ate everything she put in front of me.

As I finished the orange juice, Victoria walked into the kitchen, again dressed in white though today pants and a shirt that had a little pink it in too.

She walked to the refrigerator for her own water, but patted my shoulder as she passed and said, “Jen, you’re still here.”

“Of course.” I said and took my plate to the sink.

Victoria opened and closed the door of the refrigerator like she couldn’t decide what to eat. So she turned around and said, “I want to go shopping today.”

Once they’d been friends. I folded my hands in front of me as she took an apple from a basket on the counter and said, “Are you asking me to join you?”

Victoria nodded and tossed the apple in the air only to catch it a second later as she said, “Yes. And I want to call Alice.”

Alice? How did she matter, not that I could ask that, not exactly. Instead I asked, “Why? Where is she?”

Victoria blinked and then leaned closer like we were friends again as she said, “Security says she stayed with John. So I want us to head to Miracle Mile. I want your opinions on something I’m thinking about doing.”

“Let me finish my coffee.” I said. I’d not ask Victoria about the dress I’d found, but after I reunited with my friends, I was definitely investigating. I needed to know who so I could launch my own battle plans.

Pilar gave me hope, but I also needed to keep it together. Peter was the best man I’d ever meet, so now I needed to marry him so we’d be happy, forever.
