Sex: Probably later

Either way Rafe glanced at me and as Colt and John headed toward Alice, I went closer to Rafe.

He still smelled the same. Safe and a bit salty like his personality. Alice broke the silence and asked the men, “What are they doing here?”

Seriously? Victoria was so stiff. I whistled and nudged Alice side with my elbow so Victoria saw us. “Is that your brother?”

Without a word to any of them Victoria rushed into the office behind the store.

Huh.

“Yeah.” Alice answered and turned around  but clearly she missed Victoria’s fast getaway as Alice scratched her head. “Where is Vicki?”

The love lives of high school friends didn’t matter. Not really. I hugged Rafe as I knew if he was here, I was fine. Then I  headed toward the door and took Alice with me to give Victoria time. “It’s better if you go out to the street and not let them in here further.”

Alice took one more glance around and had no idea what to say but she nodded at me and said, ”Okay, I’m leaving then.”

Perfect. Victoria and Colt could figure their lives out on their own.

Clearly something was happening with John and Alice, but none of this mattered.

Rafe would get me to work. I was about to ask him for a ride when John kissed Alice, right here on the street.

Clearly the heat of the day got to people.

I glanced down toward the cafe where Mr. Perfect had been sitting. He was too far to see and honestly I shouldn’t think about him anyhow.

Peter would hear about today.

Then I stopped. If there was danger and Peter worried about Victoria, then she needed to be scared too.

Tonight she’d spend the night in his bed. I had the perfect plan. But then I met Rafe’s gaze.

Right. I hadn’t called him lately because of that look in his eye. He expected me to be good. I hugged him again and said, “I’m glad you’re here.”

“I always work the Morgan cases, though I figured you’d be fine.”

Hmm. She glanced at his profile and understood Rafe hadn’t meant that to be mean. It was how he talked and from that she knew he cared. She said, “I have to get to work now though. Can I get a ride?”

“Sure. Let me clear things with John and then we’ll go.”

I rolled my eyes as this was silly. Everyone was fine and clearly the sex Alice and John were having must have rattled their brains. Either way this wasn’t my business and shrugged. “I’ll wait in the car.”

As I slipped into the front seat of the police cruiser I took out my phone. My agent texted. I had a movie audition.

Perfect timing. I texted back and settled into my seat to run my lines. A few minutes later, I saw Rafe walking to the front seat and I put my phone away. I was hired for my ability to cry on cue anyhow. Today’s work called for the tears. No problem.
