OCTOBER
Vicki is alive?
Oct 13, 2016 Part 1
Weight: 117 pounds still
Ate: green tea and honey; five grapes for breakfast
Drank: last night, one lovely glass
Sex: Yes, I won’t leave Peter alone
I woke up alone. Peter’s side of the bedsheets were cold so he’d been gone for hours. Probably to check the news or his work.
Another woman crossed my mind, but that was impossible.
We’d been together. But something spurred me to go fast. So I showered, changed into a black gown my manager sent to the mansion and fixed my makeup.
At least my hands didn’t shake.
Peter never left me alone for this long.
I wasn’t sure what changed. Normally in the morning, if she slept over, he’d want a morning quickie. So being alone was strange.
I headed out of the bedroom and heard whispers downstairs.
My heart pounded that I was right. There was someone else. But in his house when I was here?
They needed to talk. I don’t want to be friends with benefits anymore. He needed to know how I felt. My heels echoed on the steps and I stood outside his office door.
More mumbles. Goosebumps grew on my arms. They were happy inside.
No. I steeled my spine and pushed open the door, ready to react.
But then it was like a bullet hit my heart and exploded in that second.
Peter sat on the couch, next to Vicki, my oldest best friend, and his sister.
I rubbed my eyes. Was I seeing ghosts now? This was impossible. Vicki was dead.
And my pulse spiked and zipped and I wasn’t sure what happened.
But then Vicki stood from the chair, tears in her eyes and hugged me.
As I smelled her rose scented perfume, I hugged her back.
This was impossible, but somehow she was here. Vicki pulled me into the room and closed the door as she said, “Don’t tell anyone.”
“What about John? Doesn’t he have the right to know?” I asked. Peter blushed. Good. He needed to know I cared about him and his family. He wanted to be closer to his brother and with me on Peter’s team, we could accomplish anything.
Vicki quickly said, “I want both my brothers, but he didn’t answer Peter’s call. So I’ll see him at the funeral.”
“Then let’s get you a black dress.” Jennifer said and jumped backwards.
Clearly the wanted to be alone right now. I’d order breakfast and talk to Caro and Pilar.
Vicki being alive meant my best friend might help me figure out what do with Peter, but for now they needed privacy. Near the door Vicki said, “I’m wearing white.”
“Got it.” Jennifer blinked.
I closed the door and shook my head. If I had to go to my own mother’s funeral, I’d still wear black and I can’t stand her. But then Mitch Morgan wasn’t related to me. I headed into the kitchen and saw Caro and her mother.
Instantly I headed toward them and said, “Victoria is alive.”
“Si. Caro opened the door.” I poured myself some coffee and joined them. Pilar, Caro’s mother, was a better mom than my own and I trusted her when I didn’t trust anyone else. She always made me feel welcome and right now, I needed them.
